Member Review - D.J. Fluck of Stadium Scene

When I was a kid, one of my favorite games on my Game Boy was Days of Thunder and my favorite track was Phoenix.  I loved the short track racing and it kept my short attention span more than a longer track like Daytona.  Fast forward 20 years and I go to the raceway for a NASCAR race and see the track with my own eyes.

Free parking as long as you don't want a very close spot and are prepared to walk.  Fairly easy to enter and exit.  Overall, a great experience.

Stadium Information

About Phoenix Raceway

Opening in 1964, Phoenix International Raceway was the first major attempt to bring open-wheel racing to the west. In that time it also brought in NASCAR starting in 1978 and currently hosts a spring and a fall race each year.  In 2017, Phoenix International Raceway rebranded as ISM Raceway, one of the first corporate sponsored. In 2020, the sponsorship abruptly ended and the track reverted back to Phoenix Raceway.

Tour Info

There does not appear to be a formal tour, but most races do offer a pit pass option, which will allow you to walk on the track before the race.

Fan Tips

Phoenix Raceway delivers a unique one-mile oval experience, featuring a distinctive layout that challenges drivers with varying corners and elevation changes.

Located in Avondale near Phoenix, the track is primarily accessed by car and rideshare.

The modernized grandstands provide strong sightlines, especially along the frontstretch and dogleg section.

Concessions include traditional race-day options along with Southwest-inspired selections.

Race weekends feature a lively infield and fan zone atmosphere, with activities throughout the day.

Security Screenings

Like almost all US and Canadian Stadiums, you will need to enter through a metal detector before entering the stadium.  Be sure to give yourself extra time and don't bring any weapons or devices that could be seen as a weapon inside.  Pat down searches may be required.

Bag Policy

One soft-sided bag OR cooler no larger than 14" x 14" x 14" may be brought into the track.  All bags subject to search before entry.

Note: Bag and security policies listed above are for typical sporting events. Special events, concerts, and other situations may result in variations. Please check the event website for any changes.
