It has been over a week since Spain won the 2023 FIFA Women?s World Cup and a little longer since we talked about the semifinal matchups (sorry for the delay). We are back and ready to recap the semifinals and what led Spain to win the final.? Let?s look at the semifinal matchups and results, then head into the final! On August 15th, Spain and Sweden went head-to-head in a great matchup. Ultimately, Spain won to secure their spot in the 2023 FIFA Women?s World Cup 2-1.? There were no goals until the 81st minute when Spain?s Salma Paralluelo scored the match?s first goal. Sweden did not go down without a fight and scored a goal seven minutes later (Rebecka Blomqvist). It was not enough though, because Spain scored the very next minute. Olga Carmona scored the game-winning goal. With Spain?s spot secured in the final, it was time for Australia to face England the next day. The Matildas had a great run the entire tournament, but it was not enough to keep England from advancing to the final. Sam Kerr scored Australia?s only goal, while England scored three goals to win 3-1. Spain and England reached their first-ever Women?s World Cup final.? Spain and England faced off in a defensive match, with only one goal scored the entire game. Olga Carmona scored in the first half to secure Spain?s win and its first-ever Women?s World Cup trophy.? Sweden beat Australia to secure a third-place win in the tournament.?
