The Raptors and the Spurs both played excellent interior defense that led to a low scoring 1st quarter. Pau Gasol led the Spurs with 8 points, while Kyle Lowry had 6 points for Toronto. Jonas Valanciunas knocked down a three-pointer at the beginning of the game, which is starting to become a normal shot for him. He has been developing his shooting from behind the arc and it paid off. DeMar DeRozan had 4 points and 3 assists in the period. Toronto trailed the Spurs 17-18 going into the 2nd quarter.
